We strolled the art galleries and antique shops of the French Quarter and bought some amazing pieces by local artists. We toured a beautiful old plantation and even went on a swamp tour-- now that was interesting! But the best thing about the whole trip was this fantastic leather bag I found.
I'll admit, I am as obsessed with fabulous leather bags as I am with art supplies... And this one is absolutely perfect as it not only looks great (much better than my sketch gives it credit for) but also because it is the perfect size to carry all the art supplies I would ever need to tote along anywhere! I managed to fit a largish sketchbook (9x12); my iPad; a huge pencil case with at least 2 dozen pitt and micron pens, pencils, brushes, a calligraphy set, a tin of 12 watercolor pencils, a tin of caran d'ache oil pastels; a travel set of 24 koi watercolors, my wallet, my phone, my keys,etc... I'm not sure why I need to carry all that with me... But I will be prepared should I ever decide to actually whip out all those supplies and start creating a masterpiece of urban sketchery! :-)
Until then, I'm motoring through the EDMs and loving my new bag!

Cool watercolor sketch! I love New Orleans too, with it's beautiful architecture, excellent jazz, and the awesome food. Blessings!
ReplyDeleteI am laughing hysterically imagining you weighted down by the awesome leather bag (which is very handsome and terrifically well drawn and painted!) but wondering how you will FEEL carrying so much all at once over your shoulder.
ReplyDeleteI have several big bags for art supplies and have in fact taken them out on my "urban plein air" drawing-painting runs...only to find that I did not need three quarters of the stuff I stuffed into it.
I will take a full bag on a long trip however, but to keep in the car, not to carry around outside. A smaller back pack holds all I need at the actual drawing sites!
Have fun with yours and happy Sunday Sketching!
Wonderful sketch! I'm constantly on the look out for the perfect sketch bag and I think I recently found one....I need to travel light 'cos too heavy a bag causes should and back ache. :(
ReplyDeleteAwesome sounds like fun
ReplyDeleteSo jealous of your trip to New Orleans--It sounds like it was magical. Also love the new bag and your illustration of it. Especially since I know from recently having attempted to illustrate a purse with gold embroidery that capturing that color is NOT simple, especially in watercolor. Nicely done.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great sketch/watercolour. And love the bag. It looks similar to my Aeropostale bag I use for school. :) Well done and too funny.
ReplyDeleteNew Orleans ~ one of my favorites ~ Lovely bag ~ great illustration ~ (A Creative Harbor)
ReplyDeleteGreat drawing - looks like a great bag! I bought a very similar looking bag when on my honeymoon in Athens years ago. Happy days ;-)
ReplyDeleteOh, great bag (and painting!). Do you remember where you got it? I might have to take a little trip into the city. Haven't been in a while. My bff and I keep saying we are going to play tourists and do some shopping in the French Quarter but it's just been too hot.
ReplyDeleteI'm loving your new bag too! It seems to be able to hold all the 'essentials'!
ReplyDeleteColor me green with envy at the NOLA trip!! I'm hoping to get back there later in the fall. Meanwhile, GREAT BAG! Love the sketch and quite the humorous post!
ReplyDeleteOh I'd love to go to New Orleans!!! I'm sure it's an amazing place full of creative art and culture not to mention the food! Very jealous indeed! Love the bag! The 'sketch' is great and it sounds perfect! :0)
ReplyDeletelooks and sounds like 'THE PERFECT' BAG!!!!
ReplyDeletecheers, dana

ReplyDeleteThat looks like a fun bag filled with lots of goodies for when the creative moment takes hold of you! love the sketch.
ReplyDeleteso glad I am no the only one who buys bags according to what supplies they will fit... this sounds about the size I like... half an art store is about the minimum size in my book...xx
