front porch weather

what a gorgeous weekend we've had!  the weather has been perfect.  this is definitely porch-sitting weather!

I'm really trying to focus on making my sketches look more realistic and less cartoony so this week I tried to focus on perspective a bit more, something that's a real challenge for me.  also, i love seeing how others add such vibrancy to their sketches with color, but i think that i need to focus on the drawing first and not ruin it with too much color. so, although i've had to practically sit on my hands to keep myself from whipping out my watercolors and brush... i'm going to leave this one alone as just a pen sketch...  at least for now.  :-)

check out what others are doing this week over at sunday sketches!

  14. I think you did a wonderful job on this. Color is fun but a well drawn black and white sketch has it's own beauty.

  15. You did a really good capturing the essences of the building, and your perspective has a very "fresh" feel to it. Awesome job.

  16. Oh wow this is a fantastic sketch! I have trouble with perspective when I draw things with angles like houses and buildings. I do much better with things more organic. Let's see. my favorite paper is...well, I have lots of favorite paper. I love Arches text wove, BFK Rives, Fabriano soft press and for a very good and economical paper I like Strathmore 400 series 140 lb cold press paper. But if I am using Copic markers then I like Strathmore marker paper. So many papers---and SO little time!!! And yes, the birdcages are a stamps and the other background images are stencils.

  17. This sketch is wonderful and I know what you mean about adding colour... I get it just where I like it in pen and ink then freak out and need a cup of tea before I risk ruining it... I have a draw full of sketches I haven't had the guts to attack yet... this is sooo lovely xxx
